Studer next1 NX1 6500-48 for backup and hybrid operation
Next1 sits between a small standalone inverter and a large three-phase microgrid. For a small business, one correctly scoped 48 V system can be better than a complex architecture whose functions are never used.

Decision snapshot
This is not a retail bundle or a blanket compatibility claim. Components are candidates; only the project specification is binding.

What the technology or architecture actually solves
NX1 6500-48 is a roughly 6.5 kVA-class platform using a 48 V battery. It can fit a single-phase critical bus, a small facility, telecom site or retrofit requiring charging, backup and managed grid use. A three-phase building may still use next1 for a separate priority circuit, not as a substitute for a proper three-phase design.
The current 2026 Studer partner list includes NX1 6500-48, the NXI communication module, compatible battery cables and a temperature sensor. This confirms an active family, not Czech stock availability. Manufacturing date, firmware, certification, batteries and service path are checked before specification.
Practical business scenarios
single-phase critical board in a small business
backup for data, security or communication infrastructure
small off-grid operation with a generator
battery and PV retrofit with tightly defined loads
Control and automation
The logic protects the battery from persistent low SOC while avoiding unnecessary generator starts. We define outage reserve, charge windows, input limits and load shedding. Remote monitoring is secondary; local operation must continue when communication services fail.
Weak points we test
The common error is connecting too many loads and relying on short-term overload capability. We measure actual profiles and compressor or motor starts and define allowed coincidence. Battery current, conductor size, fuses and ventilation are checked independently.
Legal, regulatory and data context
The legal route depends on connection, power, relationship to generation and export. The review maps equipment boundaries, metering, switchboard documentation, fire risk and evidence of remote interventions.
Frequently asked questions
Can next1 back up an entire three-phase building?
Usually not as one unit. Define a single-phase critical bus or select a three-phase architecture.
Why not choose only by 6.5 kVA?
Starts, charge power, battery current, temperature and required autonomy may be more restrictive than the headline rating.
Primary sources and fact check
Product data, firmware, certification and compatibility change. The exact model, revision, market and current documentation are reconfirmed before a binding design.
